A custom closet in South Florida costs $2,250–$4,000 for a reach-in and $9,500–$17,000 or more for a walk-in, installed. The price is driven by linear feet of system, the material (melamine, thermofoil or wood veneer) and how many drawers and doors are in the design. The ranges below from J. Perry & Sons custom closets cover design, fabrication, delivery and installation in Broward and Palm Beach.

A simpler way to budget: $190–$300 per linear foot for melamine systems with a normal mix of hanging, shelves and a few drawers, and $375–$575 per linear foot for painted or veneer systems with more drawers, doors and lighting.

  • Hanging and open shelving is the cheapest section. Double-hang stacks cost about the same as single-hang.
  • Drawers are the main cost driver: $250–$400 each depending on width, soft-close hardware and front style.
  • Doors on sections add $175–$300 per door.
  • Accessories: valet rods, pull-out hampers, belt and tie racks, jewelry inserts, $225–$450 each.
  • LED lighting in a walk-in: $800–$1,500 for strip lighting under shelves with a motion or door switch.
  • Floor-mounted vs wall-hung: floor-mounted with toe kicks reads as built-in furniture and costs 10–20% more. Wall-hung is faster and leaves the floor clear.

What the quote is made of

  1. Measure and design. We measure every wall, note the door swing, outlets and the AC vent, and draw the layout with elevations so you can see hanging heights and drawer counts before anything is cut.
  2. Material. Standard is 3/4" melamine panels with edgebanding, in white, gray or woodgrain. Thermofoil doors and drawer fronts give a painted look without the price of paint. Wood veneer or painted MDF is the furniture-grade option.
  3. Hardware. Soft-close undermount drawer slides and concealed hinges are standard on our jobs. Rods are oval steel in chrome, matte black or brass.
  4. Fabrication. Panels are cut and drilled off site; a walk-in is usually 1–3 weeks from approved drawings to delivery.
  5. Installation. Panels anchor to studs or to CBS block with sleeve anchors. Most South Florida interior partition walls are wood or metal stud; exterior and some party walls are block. We confirm before fabrication because the fastening plan is different.
  6. Finish. Adjusting doors and drawers, caulking to the wall, and cleaning the room.

South Florida details that change the design

CBS walls. Many homes in Broward and Palm Beach have block exterior walls inside the closet. Anchoring into block is fine and solid, but it takes longer and uses different fasteners. We price it into the install.

Humidity. A closet with an exterior wall and no supply vent will sweat in summer. Melamine and thermofoil handle it; raw MDF and solid wood will swell if the closet has moisture problems. If your closet smells musty, we talk about a vent or a dehumidifier before we build.

Condos. The building may require the contractor's license and insurance on file and may limit work hours to 9–4. Wall-hung systems with minimal drilling are the norm in high-rises with post-tension slabs, where floor anchoring is not allowed.

Hurricane prep. Closets that double as safe rooms should keep an open floor area; we design around it.

Timeline

  • Reach-in: measure, 1–2 weeks fabrication, half-day install.
  • Small walk-in: measure, 2–3 weeks fabrication, 1-day install.
  • Master walk-in with island and lighting: 3–4 weeks fabrication, 2–3 days install including electrical for the lights.

If old wire shelving is coming out, add a day for demo, patching and paint before the install.

How to keep the price down without a cheap job

  1. Use melamine for the boxes and spend on the drawer fronts you see.
  2. Limit drawers to what you use daily; shelves with baskets do the rest for far less.
  3. Keep one accent (an island, a lit hutch) and let the rest be hanging and shelves.
  4. Wall-hung instead of floor-mounted saves on panels and install time.
  5. Do the closet while the room is already being painted or floored.

Custom closet cost — FAQ

How much does a custom walk-in closet cost in Florida? $5,500–$8,000 for a small walk-in in melamine and $12,000–$18,000 for a master walk-in. Wood veneer, islands and lighting push a master closet to $20,000–$29,000 or more.

What is the cheapest way to get a custom closet? A wall-hung melamine system with mostly hanging and open shelving, two to four drawers, and no doors. That lands most reach-ins at $1,750–$2,500 installed.

Do custom closets add value to a home? A finished master closet is one of the first things buyers in Broward and Palm Beach open. It will not return its full cost on paper, but it sells the room.

Can you install a closet system in a condo? Yes. We register with the building, work within its hours and use wall-hung designs where the slab cannot be drilled.

How do I get an exact price? Call (561) 556-7509 or email photos and rough dimensions to jperrysonsgc@gmail.com. A written estimate is typically ready within 24–48 hours after a site review and scope confirmation.
