Outdoor Kitchens in South Florida — Islands, Stone and Tile, Countertops

Custom outdoor kitchen islands built in block, finished in stone or tile, topped with stone slab.

An outdoor kitchen in South Florida gets used most of the year, and it has to live through sun, salt air, summer rain and hurricane wind. J. Perry & Sons builds custom outdoor kitchen islands across Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade as part of our stone veneer installation work: the block or framed structure, the stone veneer or tile finish, and the countertop. Grills, refrigerators, burners and other appliances, plus the gas and electric connections, are done by licensed trades we coordinate. A turnkey island with structure, finish and countertop typically runs $18,000–$55,000, appliances separate.

Outdoor Kitchen Cost in South Florida: $18,000–$55,000 turnkey before appliances

Scope Unit Installed range
Outdoor kitchen island turnkey: structure, stone or tile finish, countertop (appliances separate) per project $18,000–$55,000
Natural stone veneer on the island per sq ft of face $38–$65
Porcelain or stone tile on the island faces per sq ft $22–$30
Stone countertop, fabricated and installed per sq ft $95–$150
Stainless or marine-grade polymer cabinet doors and drawers per unit priced from the chosen line
Appliances, gas line and electrical per project by licensed trades we coordinate

A straight BBQ island with a grill and a fridge sits in the lower part of the range. An L-shaped island with a bar overhang, sink and full stone veneer sits in the middle. Two islands, a pizza oven, a curved bar or heavy natural stone takes it to the top. Permits are included when we pull them.

Prefab vs custom outdoor kitchen

Prefab islands. Factory-built frames with a finish already applied, delivered and set on a pad. Faster, with fixed sizes and finishes. They suit a simple layout where nobody needs anything to line up with the house.

Custom outdoor kitchens. Built in place in concrete block or framed steel stud with cement board, sized to the patio and the appliances you choose, and finished to match the house: stone veneer, porcelain tile, stucco or a mix. Custom is what we build. It handles odd dimensions, columns, roof posts and pool edges, and it is solid under hurricane conditions.

Layouts: straight, L-shaped and U-shaped

Straight BBQ island. Grill in the middle, counter space on both sides, storage below. Works on narrow patios and against a wall.

L-shaped outdoor kitchen. The most popular layout. Grill on one leg, prep and sink on the other, with a raised bar or overhang on the outside corner so people sit facing the cook.

U-shaped or two islands. For larger patios: a cooking island and a separate bar or serving island, room for a pizza oven, side burner, ice maker and beverage center.

Under a covered patio, we keep the grill clear of the ceiling per the grill maker's clearances, or add a vent hood as the manufacturer requires.

Cabinets, countertops and finishes

Outdoor kitchen cabinets. Stainless steel doors and drawers, or marine-grade polymer cabinets built for outdoor use. Both resist moisture; stainless needs a grade suited to salt air near the coast. We frame the openings to the exact cutouts the manufacturer specifies.

Countertops. Granite and quartzite handle sun and heat well outdoors. Porcelain slab is another good outdoor option. Many quartz products are not rated for direct sunlight, so we check the maker's outdoor rating before recommending one.

Tiled outdoor kitchen. Porcelain tile rated for exterior use on the faces, set with exterior thinset over cement board or block, with movement joints so it survives heat swings.

Stone veneer. Natural or manufactured stone, stacked ledgestone, coral stone or split-face, set over lath and scratch coat on block. See coral stone for the local look.

How we build an outdoor kitchen island

  1. Design and appliance list. Layout, heights and every appliance cutout confirmed before we build.
  2. Permit and HOA. Drawings for the permit when required; HOA approval with the owner.
  3. Footing or pad. Concrete pad or footing where the island sits on soil, or anchored to a sound slab.
  4. Structure. Concrete block or steel stud and cement board, with openings for appliances and access panels.
  5. Rough-ins. Licensed plumbers, electricians and gas contractors run their lines while the structure is open.
  6. Finish. Stone veneer or tile on the faces, stucco on the back if chosen.
  7. Countertop. Templated after the structure is done, then fabricated and installed.
  8. Appliances and final connections by the licensed trades, then inspections.

South Florida details for outdoor kitchens

Salt air pits low-grade stainless, so near the Intracoastal and the ocean we steer toward higher-grade stainless or polymer cabinets. Rain and humidity mean every horizontal surface needs slope and every opening needs drainage. The island has to stay put in hurricane wind, which is one reason we build in block or anchored steel stud. Gas and electrical work needs licensed trades and its own inspections; many HOAs want to see the plan and materials first. We do not do engineering; we build to the engineer's drawings and coordinate a licensed engineer when the work needs one, such as a large island on a raised deck. Outdoor kitchens — FAQ

How much does an outdoor kitchen cost in South Florida? $18,000–$55,000 turnkey for the island structure, stone or tile finish and countertop. Appliances, gas and electric are priced separately by the licensed trades we coordinate.

Do you install the grill and run the gas line? We build the island with the exact cutouts and coordinate licensed gas, plumbing and electrical contractors for the connections and their inspections.

Prefab or custom outdoor kitchen island, which is better for me? Prefab is faster and fixed in size. Custom is built to your patio, your appliances and your house finishes, and it is anchored for hurricane conditions. We build custom.

What countertop works best outdoors? Granite, quartzite and porcelain slab handle Florida sun well. Many quartz products are not rated for direct sunlight, so we check before recommending one.

What cabinets hold up in salt air? Higher-grade stainless or marine-grade polymer cabinets. Near the water we avoid lower-grade stainless that pits.

How do I get an exact price? Call (561) 556-7509 or email jperrysonsgc@gmail.com with photos and rough dimensions. A written estimate is typically ready within 24–48 hours after a site review and scope confirmation.
