Pool deck resurfacing renews a worn concrete deck without tearing it out. Faded paint, peeling coatings, hairline cracks, hot spots and stains go away under a new surface, as long as the slab underneath is still sound. J. Perry & Sons does pool deck repair and resurfacing across Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade as part of our concrete restoration work: pressure wash, grind loose material, repair cracks and joints, then apply a spray texture, cool deck or coating system. Resurfacing runs $8–$15 per sq ft depending on the system and the repairs the deck needs.
Pool Deck Resurfacing Cost in South Florida: $8–$15 per sq ft
| Scope | Unit | Installed range |
|---|---|---|
| Resurfacing with spray texture (knockdown) or a pool deck coating system, prep and sealer included | per sq ft | $8–$15 |
| Cool-deck texture added to a new or resurfaced deck | per sq ft | +$4.50–$7 |
| Pool deck pressure wash before resurfacing or as building care | per sq ft | $0.45–$0.90 |
| Expansion and control joint sealant, old sealant removed | per lin ft | $14–$30 |
| Pavers over the existing concrete deck instead of a coating | per sq ft | $17–$32 |
| Tear out and pour a new concrete deck, formed and finished | per sq ft | $12–$17 plus removal at $8–$16 |
Crack routing and patching are included up to normal hairline and shrinkage cracks; wide, displaced or structural cracks are priced after we see them. Peeling multi-layer coatings that must be ground off push toward the top of the range.
Spray texture vs coating vs pavers over concrete
Spray texture (knockdown). An acrylic-modified cement overlay sprayed on and knocked down with a trowel, then sealed. It is the classic Florida pool deck look: slip-resistant, cooler than bare concrete, and available in many colors. Best for decks with minor cracking.
Cool deck. A specific textured cement finish made to stay cooler underfoot. It can go on new concrete or over a prepared older deck and is the usual choice when the deck faces full afternoon sun.
Pool deck coatings. Thinner coating systems (acrylic, cementitious or resin-based) that renew color and seal the surface. They work well on decks already in good shape and need recoating on a cycle.
Pavers over concrete. When the slab is sound but you want stone or porcelain instead of a coating, pavers set over the existing deck give a permanent new surface. It costs more but ends the recoat cycle. See pool deck pavers.

Pool deck repair before resurfacing
Resurfacing only lasts if the deck under it is sound. We check for hollow-sounding areas, lifted slabs, cracks that keep moving and soft or spalling concrete at the pool beam. Hairline cracks get routed and filled with a flexible repair material. Settled sections may need to be cut out and repoured. Where the deck meets the coping, and at control joints in the slab, the sealant is cut out and replaced so water does not get under the new surface. Joint work is covered in detail on our expansion joint sealing page. If a crack points to a structural problem with the beam or the slab, we stop and bring in a licensed engineer. We do not do engineering; we build to the engineer's drawings.
How we resurface a pool deck
- Inspect and mark. Tap test, crack mapping, joint check, slope and drain check.
- Pressure wash and grind. Dirt, algae and loose coating removed; slick areas ground to profile.
- Repair. Cracks routed and filled, spalls patched, joints cut out.
- Mask. Coping, pool water line, walls, doors and drains protected.
- Base coat. Bonding primer and base coat for adhesion.
- Texture or coating. Spray texture knocked down, cool deck applied, or coating rolled in coats.
- Seal. Sealer applied after cure for color and stain resistance.
- Joints. New sealant in the expansion and coping joints.
- Cure. Foot traffic usually after a day, furniture after a few days per the product.
South Florida conditions that wear out pool decks
Sun, chlorine and salt spray break down sealers and coatings faster here than anywhere else in the state. Rain every summer afternoon keeps the slab wet, and a deck that holds water grows algae and lifts coatings at low spots. Sandy soil settles under slab edges, so cracks open where the deck meets the house or the pool beam. Hurricane season brings debris and standing water. We schedule resurfacing for dry stretches and plan cure time around the forecast. Condo and HOA pool decks often need board approval and work during posted pool closures; we work to those dates and carry a certificate of insurance naming the association. Deck replacement may need a permit; our permits and compliance page has details.

Pool deck resurfacing — FAQ
How much does pool deck resurfacing cost? $8–$15 per sq ft for spray texture, cool deck or a coating system, with prep, normal crack repair and sealer. Cool-deck texture on its own adds $4.50–$7 per sq ft.
Can you resurface a cracked pool deck? Yes, if the cracks are hairline or shrinkage cracks and the slab is solid. Moving or displaced cracks need repair or a section repoured first, or they come back through the new surface.
What is the difference between cool deck and a pool deck coating? Cool deck is a textured cement finish made to stay cooler underfoot. Coatings are thinner systems that renew color and seal the slab and need recoating on a cycle.
Should I resurface or put pavers over the deck? Resurfacing costs less and suits a sound deck you want to keep. Pavers over concrete cost more at $17–$32 per sq ft but end recoating and change the look completely.
Do you work on condo and HOA pool decks? Yes. We work around posted pool closures, carry a COI naming the association and price by the square foot so boards can compare bids.
