Frameless shower door cost in South Florida is $2,250–$3,500 for the most common setup, a 3/8" or 1/2" tempered glass door with one fixed panel in a standard alcove. A single fixed screen for a walk-in shower runs $1,500–$2,500, a 90-degree corner enclosure $3,000–$4,750, and a floor-to-ceiling steam enclosure $4,500–$7,000. On our J. Perry & Sons bathroom renovation jobs the glass is measured after the tile is finished and installed by our glass partner, with the price on the same contract.

Ranges include measuring, tempered glass, hinges or clamps, handle, seals and sweeps, installation and silicone. Removing an old framed door is usually $150–$300. A shower rebuilt with the wrong curb slope or out-of-plumb walls is what drives glass costs up, which is why we build the tile with the glass in mind.

What changes the price of a glass enclosure

Glass thickness. 3/8" is standard and works for most doors up to about 30" wide. 1/2" is heavier, feels more solid and is the usual pick for wider doors and taller panels, at roughly 15–25% more.

Number of pieces and hardware. Every panel adds glass, clamps and labor. A door hinged to the wall needs solid blocking or a stud behind the tile. A door hinged off a fixed panel needs glass-to-glass hinges, which cost more than wall hinges.

Height. Standard enclosures stop around 72–78". Taller glass, a transom for a steam shower or glass that runs to a sloped ceiling are custom templates.

Notches and cutouts. Glass cut around a bench, a knee wall or a curb that steps changes from a rectangle to a template, and tempered glass cannot be cut after it is made.

Finish. Polished chrome and brushed nickel are standard. Gold and black finishes add cost and have longer lead times.

Why the glass is measured after the tile

Tempered glass is made to a fraction of an inch. Measuring before tile means guessing the finished wall and curb, and a 1/4" miss means a gap or a panel that will not fit. Our sequence on a shower rebuild:

  1. Blocking is installed at rough framing where hinges and clamps will land.
  2. The curb is built with its top sloped slightly into the shower, so water on the curb runs back inside.
  3. Walls are tiled plumb. Out-of-plumb walls make a frameless door swing open or closed on its own.
  4. After grout cures, our glass partner measures with a laser and templates any odd shapes.
  5. Fabrication takes about 7–10 days, then a one-visit install.
  6. Silicone cures for 24 hours before the first shower.

That is the main reason glass shows up as the last line in our shower replacement schedule.

Frameless vs semi-frameless

Semi-frameless enclosures use thinner glass with a metal header or partial frame. They cost less, typically 20–35% below a comparable frameless unit, and they are forgiving of walls that are slightly out of plumb. They also have more metal to clean and collect hard-water deposits. In a remodel where we control the tile, frameless is the usual choice; for a quick replacement over existing tile with walls out of plumb, semi-frameless may fit better.

Glass in South Florida bathrooms

Hard water. Much of Broward and Palm Beach has hard municipal or well water, and mineral spots show on clear glass within weeks. A factory coating and a squeegee after each shower keep it clear. Low-iron glass shows spots the same as standard; it just removes the green tint at the edges.

Humidity and mildew. A fixed panel with a gap at the top lets the shower dry. A fully sealed steam enclosure needs a vent or a door left ajar after use.

Condos. Glass panels arrive by elevator. Most buildings require the installer's insurance on file and a delivery window, which we arrange.

Safety. All shower glass is tempered and marked. Large panels next to a tub or below a certain height must meet safety glazing rules; the glass partner fabricates to them.

Frameless shower door cost — FAQ

How much does a frameless shower door cost installed? In South Florida, $2,250–$3,500 for a door and one fixed panel in a standard alcove. A fixed screen alone is $1,500–$2,500 and a corner enclosure $3,000–$4,750.

Is 3/8 or 1/2 inch glass better for a shower? Both are safe tempered glass. 3/8" suits most doors; 1/2" is stiffer for wide doors and tall panels and costs roughly 15–25% more.

How long does it take to get shower glass? About 7–10 days from measurement to install. Measurement happens after the tile is finished and grouted.

Can you put frameless glass on an existing shower? Yes, if the walls are close to plumb and there is solid backing for the hinges. Our glass partner checks both on the measure visit.

How do I get an exact price? Call (561) 556-7509 or send photos and rough dimensions through our project form. A written estimate is typically ready within 24–48 hours after a site review and scope confirmation.
