A paver driveway in Broward or Palm Beach County costs $14–$34 per square foot installed, which puts a typical 600 sq ft two-car driveway between $8,400 and $20,400 depending on the paver. J. Perry & Sons is a paver installation contractor that builds driveways and motor courts as a complete job: demo of the old concrete, a 6–8 in compacted limerock base, the apron in the right-of-way, borders, polymeric sand and the permit. This page covers cost by material, the permit and widening rules that trip people up, and how the base is built.
Paver Driveway Cost in South Florida: $14–$34 per sq ft installed

|---|---|---|
| Concrete pavers, standard 4x8 or 6x9, 60 mm | $14–$20 per sq ft | $8,400–$12,000 |
| Concrete pavers, large-format or textured, 80 mm | $17–$24 per sq ft | $10,200–$14,400 |
| Clay brick pavers | $18–$26 per sq ft | $10,800–$15,600 |
| Travertine pavers, 1¼ in driveway grade | $20–$28 per sq ft | $12,000–$16,800 |
| Marble or shellstone pavers | $24–$32 per sq ft | $14,400–$19,200 |
| Porcelain pavers, 2 cm on base | $26–$34 per sq ft | $15,600–$20,400 |
Ranges include demolition and haul-off, geotextile fabric, 6–8 in compacted limerock base, bedding sand, pavers, edge restraint, a soldier-course border and polymeric sand, with the paver supplied by the owner unless we quote supply. Extra base for boat or RV loads, drainage, widening and the permit fee are separate lines. Driveways under 400 sq ft price higher per foot. The full material-by-material breakdown is in the paver driveway cost guide.

Driveway paver options: material, thickness, borders
Concrete pavers. Best value and the easiest to lift and reset later. 60 mm (2⅜ in) is standard for cars; 80 mm for trucks, boat trailers and RVs. Large-format rectangles in gray and charcoal give a modern look at a modest premium.
Travertine and marble. Natural stone must be 1¼ in driveway grade, never ¾ in deck stock. Travertine handles a daily-driver driveway; marble is better kept to a motor court with lighter traffic.
Porcelain pavers. 2 cm porcelain does not stain from tire marks or oil and never needs sealing, but it needs a dead-flat base and more cutting time. We set it on a compacted base, not pedestals, for driveways.
Borders and bands. A soldier course (pavers set end to end along the edge) frames the field and hides the cut line. A contrasting band or double border runs about $8–$14 per linear foot more than plain field.

How we build a paver driveway
- Survey and permit. We measure, check the right-of-way line and the city's maximum driveway width, draw the layout and submit the permit. HOA approval is prepared with the owner at the same time.
- Demolition. The old concrete or asphalt is broken out and hauled. Irrigation heads are moved to the new edge and sleeves are set for future lines.
- Subgrade and fabric. Soil is compacted and geotextile fabric is rolled out so limerock does not punch into the sand.
- Limerock base. 6–8 in of limerock for cars, 10–12 in where a boat or RV will park, compacted in 3 in lifts with a plate or roller compactor. This is the part a low quote cuts and the reason driveways rut.
- Grades. The base is screeded to shed water toward the swale or street at about ⅛ in per foot, never toward the garage, and matched to the garage slab and sidewalk.
- Bedding sand. One inch of coarse sand screeded with pipes and a straightedge.
- Setting and cutting. Pavers go down from a fixed starting line in the chosen pattern. Border first, field to it. Wet-cut on a diamond saw.
- Apron and sidewalk. The apron in the right-of-way is built to the city's detail, often thicker base and a concrete edge, and the sidewalk crossing is kept at the required grade.
- Edge restraint, sand, compaction. Concrete or spiked edging on every open edge, polymeric sand swept in, final compaction, sand activated and the surface cleaned.
- Inspection and sealing. The final inspection is scheduled. Concrete pavers are sealed if you want color depth; travertine is sealed after a 30–60 day cure.
Permits and compliance handled. J. Perry & Sons pulls the permit, schedules the inspections, and builds to the city and county codes that apply — Broward and Palm Beach municipal building departments, HVHZ requirements where they apply, and HOA/condo association rules. Driveway permits, right-of-way and widening in Broward and Palm Beach
The part of your driveway between the sidewalk and the street sits in the public right-of-way, and nearly every city in Broward and Palm Beach requires a permit to touch it, even for a like-for-like replacement. The permit typically runs $150–$600 and takes 2–4 weeks. Some cities also require a separate right-of-way or engineering permit for the apron.
Widening is where rules bite. Most cities cap driveway width at the property line (commonly 20–24 ft for a residential lot, or a percentage of the frontage), require a setback from the side property line, and limit how much of the front yard can be paved for stormwater reasons. Circular driveways and second curb cuts need specific approval. We check the code before we draw, so the permit does not come back with corrections.
Drainage matters on every driveway here. Summer storms drop inches an hour, and a paver field with a thin base settles in the tire tracks within a year. We build the base thick, keep a positive fall to the swale, and add a channel drain at the garage where the lot is flat. Permeable pavers are an option where the city credits them for stormwater; see permeable pavers for Florida driveways.
HOA approval is standard in Weston, Parkland, Wellington, Boca Raton and most gated communities. Boards want the paver sample, border detail and a site plan; we prepare the package and the owner submits.

Paver driveway — FAQ
How much does a paver driveway cost per square foot in South Florida? $14–$24 for concrete pavers, $20–$28 for travertine, $24–$32 for marble or shellstone and $26–$34 for 2 cm porcelain, including demo, base, border and joint sand. A 600 sq ft two-car driveway lands between $8,400 and $20,400.
Do I need a permit to replace my driveway with pavers? Yes in nearly every Broward and Palm Beach city, because the apron sits in the public right-of-way. Any widening or new curb cut also needs approval. We pull the permit; typical fee $150–$600, 2–4 weeks.
How thick should the base be under a paver driveway? 6–8 in of compacted limerock for cars, 10–12 in where a boat, RV or heavy truck parks, over geotextile fabric. A 4 in base is a patio base and it ruts under tires.
Can I widen my driveway when I redo it in pavers? Often, within the city's width cap, side setback and front-yard coverage limits. We check your city's rules before drawing the layout so the permit is approved the first time.
How long does a paver driveway take? About one week for a 600 sq ft driveway once the permit is in hand: one to two days of demo and base, two to three days of setting, then sand and cleanup. You can drive on it the day after the joints are sanded and compacted.
