Have one wall in your home that feels flat and plain? An interior stone accent wall is the smallest stone job we do, and the one your guests notice most. It is part of our residential stone veneer work. A typical wall is 80–120 sq ft: the wall behind the sofa, the entry facing the front door, a dining room wall, the TV wall or a bedroom headboard wall. If the wall has a firebox in it, a stone veneer fireplace is its own job; start at fireplace installation, which covers surrounds, mantels and refacing.
Interior accent wall cost
| Stone | Per sq ft installed | 90 sq ft wall |
|---|---|---|
| Manufactured stone or ledger panel | $27–$37 | $2,450–$3,350 |
| Natural stacked stone panel, quartzite or slate | $34–$46 | $3,050–$4,150 |
| Loose-laid natural ledgestone or coral stone | $45–$65 | $4,050–$5,850 |
| Coral stone feature wall | 70–100 sq ft | $4,500–$6,500 |
| Outside corners, any stone | per linear ft | add $14–$23 |
About these prices. These ranges are starting points based on typical South Florida projects. Your final price depends on the condition of the property, access, the materials or system specified and the full scope of work. We confirm every number after we review your project in person or from the drawings, and the price in your signed proposal is the one that applies.
These prices include the stone, the backing and the setting materials. Electrical work by a licensed electrician, paint on the surrounding walls and any baseboard or crown changes are separate. A wall with two exposed ends costs more than one tucked between two corners, because each exposed end needs corner pieces.
Choosing the stone for a room
Torn between a clean modern look and something more rustic?
Ledger panels. Pre-assembled strips of stacked stone set in mortar, about 6 in by 24 in. Clean horizontal lines, quick to set, light enough for most interior walls. Manufactured panels, the cultured stone most people picture, are the most uniform; natural quartzite panels sparkle under light.
Loose stacked or fieldstone. Individual stones fitted by hand. Deeper shadow lines and more texture, but heavier and slower, so they cost more per foot.
Coral stone. Pale, porous and full of fossil texture. It makes a strong entry or dining wall and pairs well with light floors. We seal it so it doesn't soak up stains.
Grout or no grout. Dry-stack, with the stones fitted tight and no visible joint, is what most people want indoors. Grouted joints suit rustic fieldstone.
Take a sample home and look at it at night under your own lights. Indoor stone changes more between daylight and lamp light than outdoor stone does.

What the wall behind the stone has to be
What is your wall made of? Most interior walls in South Florida homes are one of three things, and each one takes stone differently.
- Painted drywall on studs. Heavy natural stone does not go on paper-faced drywall. We remove the drywall on that wall and hang cement board, or fasten lath and apply a scratch coat. Some lightweight manufactured panels can go on sound drywall when the maker allows it; we read the product sheet before deciding.
- Plaster or drywall over CBS block. Exterior walls of most houses are block with furring and drywall on the inside. We open the finish, and stone goes on cement board or straight onto a scratch coat over the block.
- Existing tile or a previous stone finish. We remove it down to a sound backing. Stone over old tile relies on the old tile's bond, and we don't build on that.
All that weight sits on the floor below. On a slab-on-grade house (built right on the concrete slab), that isn't a concern. On a raised floor or a second story, we check the framing before setting heavy stone.
Lighting, outlets and the TV
Ever seen a stone wall that just looks gray and flat? Stone is texture, and texture only shows when light crosses it. A row of recessed wall-washers or a grazing LED channel at the ceiling, 8–12 in off the wall, is what makes a stone wall look like a feature. That wiring goes in before the stone does.
Outlets and switches on the wall are moved to extension boxes so the plates sit flush to the stone face instead of sinking into it. A TV on stone needs solid blocking or a mount anchored into the structure behind, set during backing, plus a conduit for cables so nothing is drilled through finished stone later. All electrical work is done by a licensed electrician we coordinate.

How we build it
- Survey. Straightedge the wall, find studs, outlets, plumbing and the thermostat.
- Protect. Floors covered, furniture moved, the room sealed with plastic so cutting dust stays put.
- Electrical rough. The electrician moves outlets and adds lighting circuits while the wall is open.
- Backing. Cement board screwed to studs, or lath and scratch coat, depending on the wall and the stone.
- Layout. Level lines snapped, corners planned so cuts fall at the ceiling and at a hidden end.
- Set. Corners first, then field, in a polymer-modified mortar with full contact. Panels are staggered so seams never line up.
- Finish. Silicone at the ceiling and floor lines, sealer on natural stone, trim and plates reinstalled.
A 90 sq ft wall typically takes 2–4 working days, including the day the backing goes on. We cut stone outside where possible, so your room sees as little dust as possible.
Caring for an interior stone wall
Wondering how much upkeep a stone wall takes? Very little, but the little it needs is specific.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| First month | Leave natural stone alone while the sealer finishes curing; no cleaners, no tape |
| Monthly | Dust with a soft brush attachment on the vacuum; textured faces collect dust on every ledge |
| As needed | Spot clean with water and a pH-neutral stone cleaner on a soft brush, then wipe with a damp cloth |
| Every 2–3 years | Reseal natural and coral stone in high-touch areas, such as an entry wall or beside a bar |
| Before drilling | Call before hanging a TV, shelf or artwork so the blocking and conduit are located first |
What to avoid: vinegar, bleach and citrus cleaners etch limestone and coral. Wire brushes scratch manufactured stone, where much of the color sits near the surface. Candle soot and fireplace smoke left for years darken porous stone for good, so wipe them while fresh.
If furniture chips a piece, you don't need to redo the wall. Keep the few leftover pieces from the job. We cut out the damaged stone and set a matching piece in the same Mapei or Laticrete mortar used on the original wall, usually in a short visit.
Inside a South Florida home
Air conditioning keeps interior humidity steady, so any of these stones holds up indoors. Interior accent walls do not usually need a building permit; moving or adding electrical does, and the electrician pulls it. If you live in a condo, check your building's rules on renovation hours, noise and weight on a shared wall before the start date. We provide our license and insurance for the building's paperwork.
Need paperwork for your condo association? Call (561) 556-7509 or send us your project and we'll send our license and insurance for the approval.
For a covered lanai or a summer kitchen wall, the stone is still outside, even when covered. That is an exterior install with lath, screed and a breathable sealer, covered on our exterior house stone veneer page.
Workmanship warranty on every job; materials carry the manufacturer's warranty. Terms are in your written contract.

Interior accent wall FAQ
Can stone go directly on my drywall? Some lightweight manufactured panels can go on sound drywall if the manufacturer allows it. Natural stone and heavier products go on cement board or lath and scratch coat. We check your wall and the product sheet before choosing.
Will a stone wall make the room dusty for weeks? No. Cutting happens outside where we can, the room is sealed with plastic, and a typical wall is done in 2–4 working days.
Can I mount a TV on a stone wall? Yes, if it is planned. Blocking or an anchored mount goes in with the backing, plus a conduit for the cables, so the TV hangs from structure and nothing is drilled through finished stone.
Which stone is easiest to keep clean indoors? Manufactured ledger panels and dense natural quartzite. Coral stone and soft limestone are more porous, so they are sealed and dusted with a soft brush rather than wiped.
Are faux stone panels a cheaper way to get the look? They cost less up front. Faux stone panels are molded foam or resin sheets screwed to the wall, so they go up quickly, but the pattern repeats, the seams can show under wall-washer lighting, and the face dents if a chair hits it. Ledger panels in real stone or cultured stone are set in mortar and feel solid to the touch. We install real stone, and on a wall you look at every day, we think the difference shows.
What do you need from me to quote my wall exactly? A photo from across the room, the wall's width and ceiling height, and the stone you like. Call (561) 556-7509 or send us your project; after a short visit to check the backing and outlets, the written price follows.
